You reminded me of a story. My mother-in-law and father-in-law both spent their final days with us. About a week before he died, my father-in-law (who was next door) called in the middle of the night cause he was in great pain. My wife had me walk over with her in the February cold, and I was complaining to myself, thinking we couldn't do anything and why was he burdening her with the call? We got there, she gave him the morphine. It worked immediately and he told us "Wow, I didn't really think you could do anything when I called but that stuff really works!"
