Tom's right: God hears everything and answers every prayer. Everyone and everything can be a distraction keeping us from talking to him and hearing his voice.

Maybe this might help? Think of the Father as your Father, the Son as a perfect mate or a perfect brother and the Holy Spirit as the love and truth and beauty that fill you. Then approach the one of the above you feel most comfortable getting to know.

Any preacher is essentially just like us (but with more training), a helper to help you find God himself. But ultimately, mortals are just people: it's God alone who is the author of the Universe (the direct source you seek), and it's really best to talk to him directly, to make some quiet time (maybe walking alone in the woods or on a beach or a chapel) so you can hear him and find him and talk with him.

I don't know your preacher (though it sounds like you want to either look for a new preacher or make an appointment to talk to this one to get to know him and his thoughts better).
