Thought provoking. My parents are 79:

- One is fine with the internet/smartphones/tech but hates driving very far.

- The other can drive hundreds of miles at a time and would be fine getting a new car annually -- but has zero interest in the internet/smartphones or "anything newer than a Fax machine."

I don't think it's an inability to learn but rather an "if it ain't broke, why do I need something new?" There's comfort in "what works."
