It's still a best seller five years later because the author (a scholar of ancient civilizations) shows how in the ancient world, there truly was an "only the strong survive" attitude. Holland wasn't a big person of faith until he saw how sweeping Christianity was in reshaping our views of rights for all. The paradox of Christianity? That the all-powerful God would humble himself, becoming a helpless baby, that everyone is created by God, endowed with fundamental rights that can't be taken away by a man on a jury or anywhere.
