Thank you for reading my work and for sharing all your good questions and comments.
Yes, I am a Roman Catholic and part of the reason can be found on any search engine: If you ask Alexa or Siri or Google "Who is the founder of the Roman Catholic Church?" the search engines will answer "Jesus Christ."
If you ask that same question about other religions, you'll get someone else.
Religion, by the way, simply means a "binding relationship," and being baptized a Christian means you have a binding relationship with the Father, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit. The Church actually teaches that the sacrament of Baptism makes you a priest, prophet, and king, an adopted child of God.
Now, to be fair to all faiths (which each contain at least some truth), there is definitely a cultural and family aspect to our choice of religion. As my bio states, I am Polish and Catholic, and Poles and Catholicism have gone together since 966, so I carry on a tradition from my family. The USA, in contrast, was founded (mostly) by members of a number of Protestant faiths, so the USA's culture is more Protestant than Catholic.
The shortest answer to your other concerns:
- The only thing wrong with Christianity is Christians themselves. We mess up all the time, and thankfully, we have a perfect God to turn to. Pride gets in the way, and too often, we try to do things ourselves rather than turning to prayer.
- God is love and truth and beauty itself. All Christians (and all humans) get things wrong every day and are capable of all sorts of horrible behavior.
- The Church was originally called The Way because Jesus showed us a better way.
- Sin (something we all do all the time) is an archery term that means "missing the mark" (the target you are aiming for). We hit some targets and miss most.
- That search for answers (sometimes called our "God hole") is what makes us turn to prayer -- to the author of the Greatest Story Ever Told, the search for answers, for help and wisdom.
May you always be blessed and guided in your journey.
