Please don't blame yourself. Could have mainly been timing? There's an almost ancient rule of divorce, that we are all "radioactive" in the first year or two after a divorce, that a divorce is like cancer where it takes you five years to be considered "free of it." I knew divorced PARENTS decades ago who followed that 'five year" rule in their dating of other divorced people, to not allow themselves to get too serious about someone who was recently divorced. So it's possible you got downgraded to the lower tier when he heard you were 'just coming out" of the divorce?
