I don't know if this story will help, but I share it in case it does:

I read a book many years ago about a famous hero who had amazing accomplishments that changed history (but who also said and did many other things nearly everyone would consider to be insensitive, heartless, or stupid).

The author noted we have a tendency to expect more of our heroes, to expect someone who is great at something to be great at most or all things.

But in reality, everyone is a genius at something (or perhaps many things). Those are our gits. But he noted everyone is also totally incompetent or below average in several other areas (that is our mess). Fortunately, eventually, we meet people who are strong where we are weak, and vice versa. Keep the faith and please keep writing!
