I love this, Paul. Your key sentence is whether we are putting the focus on ourselves or on Him. And as you said, it truly would be like lighting a cigarette in Church - or now I'm thinking of things people have been caught doing when they're in Zoom work meetings.
Key question: Are we in Church to "be fed" or to be with Him?
The former is a consumer mentality like going to McDonald's or a movie to "be fed" but the latter recognizes we are going to see and worship and praise a living Father in his house.
We see this "gotta have my coffee with me" attitude even sneaking into Catholic Churches among a tiny few who don't know better. Life was easier when the "fast" began at bedtime, and we didn't "break the fast" (hence the word breakfast) until AFTER Church, so I do try to fast totally before morning Mass, but the "one hour rule" has created a slippery slope. Bless you, Paul!
