Citizen Kane, often rated one of the best films ever made, is wrapped around searching for why the final word of a dying icon was “Rosebud.” It was also Donald Trump’s favorite film.

So Director Robert Orlando is back with a new documentary seeking to discover “what’s Trump’s Rosebud?” He interviewed much of Trump’s inner circle, seeking the man himself to solve the puzzle. We caught up with Orlando a month before the film’s January 6, 2023, release.

Five questions for director Robert Orlando

1: So you did two a Citizen Trump film and an updated newer version of Citizen Trump and a book, but now you’re back to Donald Trump, zeroing in on the Rosebud message. What keeps you coming back to this theme?

My attraction to this story is essentially one that is hard to avoid in that Trump has been — whether we like it or not — the leading consumer of our attention for nearly six years. Yet, most do not understand him correctly for his role in our life as a media figure.
