Candy from a Baby: Ruining Halloween
How to ruin a holiday: Halloween sales are down again — for good reason. No one wants to be “a little too old” for the club.
Halloween is a beautiful holiday for little kids 10 and under.
Life lesson: Your personal ROI for Halloween diminishes greatly if you look like you’re taking candy from a baby.
Just ask the governor of Virginia and the prime minister of Canada how they feel about Halloween after the political disgust they sparked over past dumb choices for costumes.
The social media generation may now see it’s better to give away candy than to go seeking it. Better to play grown up than to wear costumes they wouldn’t want to see themselves in when they’re seeking some future big job.
Chris Rock explained this well: “Every man has to settle down eventually. You know why you gotta settle down eventually? Because you don’t want to be the old guy in the club. You know what I’m talking about. Every club you go into, there’s always some old guy. He ain’t really old, just a little too old to be in the club.”
For the second year in a row, retailers expect Halloween related sales to fall but they will still spend a whopping $8.8 billion on costumes, candy and pumpkins.
