Beautiful question showing love is a journey with so many steps. The ancient Greeks had four or five different words for different levels of love including the love we feel for friends, romantic love and something even deeper (they called Agape).

Love is amazing when it's a win/win deal but what about the moments when everyone can't win? For example: Dogs love us and love of us even more when we are holding a plate of food. But what if they have to choose between the food and us? My dog Jake once knocked an entire tray of lasagna off the kitchen counter and ate every bit of it (not even saving some for us) because he really loved that lasagna.

But as relationships grow, we learn to love in deeper ways: like giving our last cookie (the one we were saving for ourselves) to the one we love because ultimately, a deeper love is willing the good of the other (even if we have to give up something for them to get that love)
